Stenciled Tote Bag Instuctions

SUPPLIES:

Roc-lon® Multi-Purpose Cloth™ – White
2 – 15” squares for tote front and back
1 ½ yards of cording or roping for handles
4 extra large eyelets
4 metal crimpers for handles (available at any of the large chain fabric stores)
Rubber stamp
Acrylic craft paint
Clear acrylic spray paint – non-yellowing
Paint brushes
Rotary cutter
Mat
Quilters ruler

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Use the rubber stamp to decorate one side of each of the 15” squares. Allow to dry. Paint the opposite side of each of the squares with a solid color. Allow to dry. Spray both sides with the clear acrylic paint. Use two coats and allow to dry between applications.

CONSTRUCTION:

Cut a 3” square from each of the bottom corners of the front and back. Discard these squares. This is the bottom of the bag. With right sides together, stitch the side seams using ¼” seam allowance. Stitch the bottom edges together using ¼” seam allowance. Do not stitch into the corners. With right sides together, pinch the side seam down to meet the bottom seam in the corners. Stitch across using a ¼” seam allowance. Repeat for the other corner. Turn the top edge of the bag down 1 ½” to the inside. Use paper clips or clothespins to hold in place. Topstitch close to the raw edge of the turned down edge. Measure in 4” from each side seam and place a mark with a pencil to indicate placement for eyelets. Insert eyelets at these marks, about ½” down from the top, following package instructions. Cut the cording or roping in half, giving you two 27” lengths. Insert cording through eyelets and pinch crimpers to hold each end in place. (See picture)
